We are very pleased to announce that our founder, Michael Somoroff, is unveiling his monumental work, Illumination I at the Rothko Chapel in Houston on November 12 th . This is the first artwork of any kind presented at the Chapel in 35 years, since the installation of Mark Rothko’s paintings and Barnett Newman's sculpture, “Broken Obelisk” upon the opening of the Chapel itself. For more information please visit to Michael Somoroff Website or Rothko Chapel. Please feel free to explore the physical development of the project and the sculpture in our Recent projects area. “During 2005 I was formally invited to place one of my works on the grounds of the Rothko Chapel. I am deeply grateful to have this opportunity to participate in the chapel's legacy, one that places art at the threshold of the chapel's quest to advance human rights. For the last two years I have been involved with the chapel and the progress of this project, which includes the creation of my installation “Illumination I” as well as a video and a large body of preparatory works; video, photography, sketches, drawings, models and a like. The sculpture is a derivation of light flowing through a virtual ruins created from news photos of mosques that have been compromised in war torn Iraq . The sculpture was finally built from fiberglass, lime cement and pulverized marble.” Michael Somoroff
